ART - Articulating Territorial and Thematic Networks for Human Development
- is an international cooperation initiative that brings together programmes
and activities of several UN organizations. It promotes a new type of
active multilateralism in which the United Nations system works with
national and local governments to involve local communities and their
social actors from the South and North in international cooperation
partnerships towards human development.

The United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD)
is an autonomous UN agency engaging in multidisciplinary research on
the social dimensions of contemporary problems affecting development.
Through its research, UNRISD stimulates dialogue and contributes to
policy debates on key issues of social development within and outside
the United Nations system. The Institute conducts rigorous comparative
research in collaboration with scholars and activists, primarily in
the developing world, whose ideas are not sufficiently reflected in
current debates.
